June Lockhart was born June Lockhart on June 25. 1925 in New York City. She made her stage debut in the Metropolitan Opera at age 8 and her film debut as Belinda Cratchit in the 1938 production of A Christmas Carol alongside her well-known acting parents Gene and Kathleen as Bob and Mrs. Cratchit. June has appeared in nearly 200 movie and television productions with roles in films ranging from Meet Me In St. Lois and Sergeant York to She-Wolf Of London She is best know for her roles as the mother in Lassie and Lost In Space as well as multiple appearance on Petticoat Junction as the local doctor and has voiced characters in TV series from Pound Puppies and Spongebob Squarepants to the current Lost In Space series on Netflix. In her career spanning 90 years, she received a Tony Award, 2 Emmy nominations, 2 stars on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame, and was honored by NASA with the Exceptional Public Achievement Medal for inspiring public interest in space exploration
So today we celebrate first in our Beta Max TV birthday tribute to June Lockhart featuring June in several commercials and then as a celebrity contestant on the game show The Face Is Familiar (also with Bob Crane) (1966)
Then, June appears as daughter Mary Lou in the 1947 comedy IT’S A JOKE, SON! Beauregard Claghorn, a blustery die-hard southerner (and character from Fred Allen’s radio show Allen’s Alley), gets into financial trouble and winds up running as the candidate for a political machine against the other candidate for senator – Beauregard’s wife, Mrs. Claghorn. (Claghorn was the inspiration for the cartoon character Foghorn Leghorn.)
